about

Lilith... The most loved and yet most misunderstood track on 'Samsara'. Why? Because many people believe Ahráyeph to be a metal band, based on this song. And we're not. And 'Lilith' is not a metal song.

If you regard heavily distorted guitars as being 'metal', then yes, this song could be defined that way. However, I don't see it that way. I use all the instruments at my disposal to create an atmosphere that reflects or enhances the lyrical subject. 'Lilith' called for an angry mood and nothing does 'angry' better than heavily distorted guitars, further complemented by some industrial sounding rhythm samples and tribal drumming to make it really angry. So that's what 'Lilith' is to me : anger put to music.

It already sounded good on 'Samsara', so why, you may ask, would I want to put it through another mixing session? Well, because 'good' sometimes isn't good enough, because I'm an obsessive compulsive perfectionist, and because the other songs in what I now started calling 'The Nymphomania Trilogy' - being 'The Rain Suite' and 'End II (Insight - already had been treated to a new coat of polish, so now these three tracks can shine together.

And shine it does. A new choir synth, which sounds a lot more dynamic, even MORE emphasis on those distorted rhythm guitars (to further confuse the unsuspecting masses), clearer vocals and more clarity overall give the song a new lease on life. At least, that's how I feel.

With it comes artwork which was made by Harbinger Design. Dirk did a great job over the years, and while Rose Creek Design has now taken over the design duties for Ahráyeph, I wanted to use this fine artwork as a nod and a thank you to Dirk's excellent job.

So now, enjoy (again)...
